Emeka Akabogu Is the principal partner of AKABOGU & ASSOCIATES.
He is a first degree graduate of the University of Lagos
Nigeria, and holds a Masters degree in Maritime and Commercial
Law from the University College London. He has expertise in a
broad range of areas in Maritime and Commercial Law including
admiralty jurisdiction, marine insurance and international
carriage of goods by sea, in addition to wet shipping areas like
collisions, salvage and towage.
He is the author of
Maritime Cabotage In Nigeria, which remains Nigeria's
principal authority on the subject. He prepared the first draft
of the Coastal and Inland Shipping (Cabotage) Bill (now an Act)
in addition to defining key advocacy themes that have
benchmarked the development of the Nigerian Maritime Cabotage
regime. He is the Publisher of Maritime Nigeria, the
recognised leading journal on the Nigerian maritime industry. He
is the Convener of the
since 2004, of the most consistent specialized training programs
for operators in the Nigerian maritime industry.
He has consulted widely for government and
private sector organisations, and is a regular speaker in
industry related seminars. He has also researched into fields
of Shipping Policy and Economics, Bills of Lading, Import and
International Trade, Marine Safety and Security, International
Maritime Conventions, Maritime Labour, Competition Policy, Local
Content Development, Enforcement of Maritime Claims, Ship
Registration and Oil Pollution. He is a member of the Nigerian
Bar Association, Nigerian Maritime Lawyers Association, Maritime
Arbitrators Association, London Shipping Law Centre and
Chevening International. |
